Vocabulary Lesson

Let’s start with the basics. Becoming a mom in social media means entering a whole new world of terms, acronyms, and abbreviations. Below is a list of common terms I’ve come across in the mom and pumping world. I’ll update this as I discover new ones. Please feel free to leave a comment with any terms you don’t see here.


Acronyms & Abreviations

  • BF – Breast Feed
  • BLW – Baby-Led Weaning
  • DD – Darling Daughter/Dear Daughter
  • DH – Darling Husband/Dear Husband
  • DN – Direct Nurse
  • DS – Darling Son/Dear Son
  • EBF – Exclusively Breast Feed
  • EP – Exclusively Pump
  • FF – Formula Feed
  • FTM – First Time Mom
  • LC – Lactation Consultant
  • LO – Little One
  • MPP – Months Post-Partum
  • OPD – Ounces Per Day
  • PPD – Pumps Per Day/Post Partum Depression
  • SAHM – Stay At Home Mom

Terms & Definitions

  • Goldilocks – pumping output is about the same as baby eats
  • Let down – the body receives a signal to release milk from breasts
  • Oversupplier – pumping output is more than baby eats
  • Power Pumping – pump for 20-30 minutes, rest for 10, pump for 10, rest for 10, pump for 10
  • Pumpling – pumping mom’s baby
  • Strawberry Milk – blood in milk
  • Supplementing – adding formula, cereal, or additional breast milk
  • Undersupplier – pumping output is less than baby eats
